The iPhone 4 is not the type of phone typically categorized as "durable". Sure its glass was reinvented to a one part system, permanently attaching the LCD and glass as one part, verses the iPhone 3G/S which has a two part system, in which if the glass or LCD break you need only have to replace one, the iPhone 4 however if one of the two parts stops working both must be replaced at a much higher cost. The new glass mimics the same type of glass used for helicopter windshields, and the device itself was given a more "square" look for better handling.
Apple also added a special type of insurance that can only be purchased through iTunes. The amount of cost a person would pay per month, and on top of that an equal value purchase price as a deductible, the insurance almost doesn't even hold value of what kind of protection you could get from an OtterBox Defender Case for iPhone 4. Most people avoid the insurance all together.

The iPhone 4 OtterBox is an amazing two level case, with two different parts to make it the strongest case available for the iPhone 4.
